The Study Of Series is designed for personal study, small groups, Sunday school classes, and family worship. The series is designed for those who yearn to learn more about the Bible and about God, its author (Psalm 42:1). Each day requires an average of 20 minutes to complete, but each day also allows for deeper study with more time spent in thought, meditation, and prayer.
Each day has three distinct sections: Insights, Observations, and Prayer.
The Insights section focuses on understanding the text as the original audience and hearers did. Who is speaking? Who is the audience? What did the message mean to them? What are the key elements? Who are the key players? What is happening historically and why? These are a few of the basic questions you will find in the Insights section. At the end of this section, you will find the key verse for that day. The verse is always gleaned from that day’s reading.
The Observations section is designed to transculturally apply the principles found in the text. Simply said, what applies to my own life and my own culture? What is God teaching me through the text? What does this mean for the body of Christ, the church today?
Sprinkled within the Insights and Observations sections, you will find a paragraph of commentary of explanation. Often, the commentary is further insight on the historical and cultural landscape of which you are reading about. Other times, the commentary handles application for modern hearers. In either case, these paragraphs are short and designed to enhance and deepen your understanding of the text.
Each day is closed with a section titled Supplications. This time is intentionally designed for you to spend in conversation with God. As the Holy Spirit teaches you truths about who God is and who you are, you will find yourself wanting to respond to Him in prayer and in deed. This time each day enables you to verbalize your response to Him and spend time in His presence.
